SUPPLY CHAIN HANDBOOK

Computer peripherals: displays, keyboards, mice and touch input

Distinguish panels from monitors, keyboard modules from branded products, and motion sensors from mouse controllers. Trace official capabilities and the applicability of touch, backlights and wireless connectivity.

Reading guide revised:

Where does value sit within monitors, keyboards and mice?

Monitors integrate panels, image control, power and mechanics. Keyboards combine key mechanisms with input control; mice combine motion sensing with control and communication. Component design, module manufacturing and branding are different roles, extended by touchpads, pens, webcams and docks.

  1. Panels and display silicon → Monitor ODM and finished products

DDICs drive pixels while image controllers process signals. LCDs require backlights; OLED does not use this same backlight path.

  2. Keys / motion sensing → Keyboard and mouse control

Mechanisms or sensors turn movement into signals. Controllers process input and communicate, while system makers integrate mechanics and firmware.

  3. Touch, pens and external interfaces → Computer and tablet use

Touchpads and touchscreens differ. Pen protocols, USB-C video and docking functions all require host compatibility checks.

What changes the choice?

Panel makers are not monitor ODMs; keyboard modules are not external keyboards; mouse sensors are not wireless SoCs. Companies are listed by official capabilities. Omission does not rule out supply, and inclusion does not establish adoption by a specific brand.
