ENGLISH OVERVIEW
Multilayer Rigid PCBs
More routing layers joined through plated connections
Multilayer boards laminate patterned inner layers with insulation and connect them through metallized holes. They provide routing space and power or ground references. The term describes a structure, not a guaranteed speed or reliability level.
Build and verify the stack
Typical fabrication includes inner-layer imaging, etching and inspection, followed by lamination, drilling, metallization and outer-layer processing. Special constructions alter the sequence.
- Alignment, finished thickness, resin flow, via walls and interlayer reliability require control beyond simple continuity testing.
Choose the technology for the bottleneck
More required routing layers may favor high-layer-count boards; fine-pitch breakout may favor HDI microvias. Ask whether the limiting factor is layer count, via size, routing density or signal loss.
- Two boards made from the same laminate can perform differently because their geometry and stack-up differ.

Structural category
Rigid multilayer boards are a PCB structure; this is classification, not a purchasing relationship.

Higher layer counts
HLC describes multilayer boards with higher layer counts; inspect the stack-up rather than assume a fixed threshold.
