ENGLISH OVERVIEW

Copper-Clad Laminate

The insulating and copper base for a circuit board

CCL supplies the insulating base and copper layer that PCB makers turn into circuits, plated holes and multilayer structures. Resin formulation, glass reinforcement and copper surfaces jointly determine its properties.

CCL and prepreg have different roles

Typical glass-reinforced CCL is made by hot-pressing resin-impregnated glass and copper foil. It is a board material, not a finished PCB. Prepreg remains a separate input for bonding circuit layers during later lamination.

  • Material suppliers often provide both products, but their delivered forms and functions differ.

Why high-speed designs care

Dk affects propagation and impedance design; Df affects dielectric loss. Copper roughness adds conductor loss. Geometry, frequency and manufacturing conditions determine the actual result.

  • Thermal expansion, moisture, dimensional stability, adhesion and drilling compatibility must accompany electrical specifications.

Read demand through actual specifications

Ask which layers, signal lengths and data rates require lower-loss material and whether board and equipment customers have qualified it. AI equipment growth does not benefit every CCL product in the same proportion.

  • General FR-4, high-speed laminates and package-substrate materials serve different markets; a single M-grade label is insufficient.
